Anahata (Animus series) examines the shadow side of the heart chakra. Where grief is unresolved, love becomes performance, and vulnerability is filtered through self-preservation. Set against a neon green field, the colour associated with this energy centre. The figure wears a hand-painted mesh mask depicting an anime like figure. Beneath the transparent mesh, the dissociated face remains visible, refusing full concealment. The heart’s withheld pain leaks through the costume. A front where innocence and vulnerability collide with the burden of self-preservation and unresolved grief. Rooted in Jungian psychology, the work depicts the artist’s understanding of the Animus: a study of the female shadow-self (or unconscious self), where the unintegrated masculine resides. This piece confronts the viewer to recognize and identify the veils the heart inevitably creates to protect itself from hurt; a catch 22 that is causing it to shelter itself from the medicine it needs to heal. Only by unmasking itself can it be recognized by it’s counterpart and receive the love it needs. The love that only genuine vulnerability can accept.
